Hi, so my guppy female recently had plenty of fry and unfortunately some of them gotten eaten as I don't have any real plants.
I noticed something weird, all the rest of the guppies seemed to be hunting the fry but the guppy mom who gave birth seemed to be nibbling and attacking other fish if she saw them hunting for the fry.

I thought fish didn't have any paternal instincts and that they eat their own fry...am I missing something here? Was she really trying to protect her babies or was it something else?

Some cichlids do protect their young as do some other fish but guppies arent known to do this. She's usually hunting right along with everybody else.

I have guppies too and my one female after she gave birth was always swimming around protecting her fry. If the Male came anywhere near the fry she would ram him into the corner.
