Guppies Breeding Help!

Hello,

3 of my Guppies are pregnant and one of them had given birth yesterday (luckily, I managed to save 7 fry).

Can you look at these pictures for me and just confirm that these fish are pregnant and if so could you tell me how long I might be waiting until they drop their fry.

Also, I have 2 plastic breeding traps for the births which are covered with tights as the fry keep escaping through the slits. Would these be suitable to pop a mother Guppy in as she nears the birth and when would you recommend I do so?

Thanks in advance.

I'd say they are both pregnant. Not sure about calculating due date though

What would you recommend in terms of birthing tanks?

You have a few options for breeder tanks. Some breeders are boxes with fine mesh walls that hang on the tank and some have a special compartment for the fry to fall into so mom can't eat them. When I had guppies I would put mom in one of the mesh breeder boxes hanging off the side of the tank with a few clippings of anachris for the fry to hide in and remove the mom when she had finished giving birth. Breeder boxes like these are pretty cheap (under $10). Hope this helps!

How big is the tank they’re in right now, are there hiding spots, what other fish do you have in there? Get ready to start having more fish than you know what to do with!

Yeah I have 2 breeder boxes which sound exactly the same. I read online that sometimes the mother aborts her babies due to stress when being put in to these, have you had any similar problems?

Also, How do I know when you transfer her into the box and if I transfer her too early is that a bad thing?

The tank we have is approx. 40 gallon so quite large and it only has the following in there:

1 Shrimp
4 Female Guppies
2 Male Guppies
2 rams (I think).
1 Bristle Nose Plec

Here is a picture of the tank. There is a fair amount of greenery for them to hide in.

Fry of guppies hang out at the surface of the tank, if you do not have surface cover they are targets. Provide more cover and the strongest fry will survive just fine. Breeder boxes stress the fish inside, it is better to let nature take its course than raise all the weak fry nature would cull.

I thought this but the fry I found from the last birth hung out at the bottom within the gravel and plants.
