I have been reading up on guppies after a few problems with mine. The question is salt or no salt? Some books recommend a dose of salt permanently in a guppy tank whilst others say only when treating illness. What do you think? I would value anyone's opinion. Does salt increase GH?
Also do specialist guppy foods actually make a difference or are they just a way to charge more for the same old flake?

Guppys and Molly's do great with salt if they're the only ones in the tank. They even thrive in brackish tanks. If you decide to do salt, increase it gradually and be sure to replace the same ratio when shipping water changes. I'm not sure of the dosing though. Maybe someone else will jump in with that info...
Salt does not increase GH
Look at the fish food ingredients. A quality species specific fish food will contain ingredients the same or similar to what that species eats and not a lot of garbage fish never eat in nature like corn starch, wheat etc.
