There are many variables from tank size, stocking level, school size, age, tank maintenance, even the foods offered. That being said, I have had clown loaches grow 6 inches in the first year.

They seem to grow faster until they reach 6-8 inches and after that the lenght growth slows down a bit as they start getting more girth too.

Depends how much you feed them IMO.

I feed the minimum in order to achieve excellent water quality.

My fish have taken 17 years to reach 8" and are still growing.

When I first bought them I was told they were fast growing but found they are very slow growing.

I bought a Sailfin Plec at the same time and he was much faster growing reaching 12" in seven years living with the loaches.

I got rid of my Sailfin Plec as he was chasing the EBJD around in the dark and damaging him so despite loving the Sailfin I decided I would rather keep my EBJD.

My eBJD looked bumped about and his fins were ragged. I slept downstairs one night and there was violent splashing in the tank as he tried to jump out and escape the Pleco.

I'm not mixing diurnal and nocturnal species there days.

The Plec never liked the Clown Loaches either.

Perhaps will not keep the pleco. Keep everything else and maybe add something else. I don't know. Thanks for your advice and you must have taken very good care of your loaches for them to be 17years old.
