HI
I have 2 Blue Ramz in my 25 gallon tank. The male has been hiding amongst the plants and Ive noticed a small growth above his mouth. I have checked out various sites but can't determine what it might be or how I can treat it
Any suggestions appreciated. Ive attached a photo
Thanks
Ross

I can't really see from the picture, but is it white and fuzzy?

Not fuzzy
More like a defined blister with a white spot

Could it be an injury of some sort?

Could it be columnaris? What's the tank size, parameters, other fish, new fish, how long have you had him, is it cycled?
Welcome to the forum!

The tank is 100 litre with about 90 litres of water
Ph 6.8; Ammonia 0.25; Nitrites 0; Nitrates 0; Gh 3; Kh 3; Phophates 0.25?
The tank filter consists of bioballs and noodles and recently added filter sponge.

Other fish in the tank - 12 Cardinal tetras, 2 catfish, 4 guppies and one peacock spiny eel

Sorry- had him 3 weeks

That's an awful lot of fish in a 20 gallon tank. No?

Also I don't believe the tank is cycled if you have 0 nitrates as well as .25 ammonia. Water conditions could play a factor in what is happening with him but I have never kept blue Rams so I'll let someone else chime in.

The tank is cycled.
It has A separate se3ction woth Bio balls, noodles and sponge. The water is cycled through via riser tubes.

I'll try to add a photo of my filtration system to my gallery and post it here

Is it?
I honestly don't know but had the impression it's not overly stocked :-(
The tank is cycled

HI
Thanks everyone for your replies and help.
Unfortunately I have noticed another white spot on the side of the Blue Ram
Does anyone know what it might be and is there anything I can do for him?

It looks fungal. I had that with my Cory cat. I used pima fix from API it cleared up in 8 days.

I have API Melafix (active ingredient - Cajeput Oil 9.23g \ L) .Is that the same product?

I got it from my local aquarium when I went there seeking advice. Haven't used it yet.

I have the impression it's the equivalent to Tea Tree Oil for humans
Thanks for your reply

Roscoe

However they doesn't look fluffy or like cottom wool (to quote my fish book). They look quite defined in the border of the spot, but it still could be fungal I suppose.
I'll look for Pima Fix as all the API products are from The States

If you look at the bottle, it treats fungal and bacterial infections

I'm not a fish expert, but a cycled tank should have 0 anmonia and some nitrates

HI

I have discussed this with local aquarium and Melbourne Water (water utility) has chloramines in local water. This shows up as the low reading of ammonia evidently.

Thanks

I do have nitrates - low readings and after water change it can dip to 0
Could this mean the plants are using available nitrates?

I am at the moment using a combination of Primafix (primacare in the U.S.) and Melafix until day 7 of treatment, then 25% water change
Great treatment -doesn't affect filtration media or Ph etc. Also doesn't affect the shrimp ( I have 4 red shrimp)

Maybe worth using if fish being introduced from an aquarium shop. The fish introduced could have anything from wherever they originally came from.

Awesome and yes your plants will eat up some nitrates. As far as testing your parameters, the treatments sometimes screws up the test results. Youl get a more accurate reading in a couple of weeks after treatment is done and a few water changes are performed
