Growing Devil's Ivy over a tank like a canopy

I have a couple 55 gallon aquariums that may be getting a little too much sunlight. I don't want to rearange them, I like their placement in their respective rooms. My idea for a fix is to grow clones of my Devil's Ivy plant suspending it over the tank with it's roots submerged.

Here's where I need help. I have and idea of the effects of thison my tank, but I don't want to miss anytime and suffer a livestock loss.

1. The plant will grow over the glass hoods and over the sides, reducing sunlight exposure.

2. The roots will obsorb ammonia and nitrate and possibly even phosphates

3. With the constant replenishment of ammonia and nitrite, the plants should flourish.

4. The roots will create hiding spaces for fish once they grow deep into the water and interweave.

What I'm uncertain of is any negitive effects of doing this. Can anyone help me out on that? Or maybe even give me a reality check on my dreams of what this will become.

Thanks in advance!

it sounds great I don't think anything would go wrong except if your tank is getting direct sunlight it will become a mess with alage and also it will probably over heat depending upon were you live

Love it, I have devil's ivy growing in my filter and a planter I made and they are going crazy, if you get a larger plant instead of clippings from a main plant you shouldn't have algae problems because they will already have good roots but be sure to clip the roots to promote more root growth. Good luck.

My only concern would be if the roots are poisonous to fish. If others have done it, then it must be ok.

Another option is a nice moss wall on the sunlight side of the tank or window tint.

I found a link on the toxicity of the plant if you want to check it out.

That said, I have seen people keep bettas in this manner, but have not seen anything like that, nor did I use it for my bettas. Lots of betta lovers advised me against it before I had even asked.

However, if there are a great number of people who are doing so with no problems and have little to no experience with keeping fish, then perhaps it is doable. It is a gorgeous idea, hands down.

I am too scared to use it, as with my luck I'd end up with a problem.

I grow it in my sump. I have never heard of any negative comments about Pothos in aquarium.
