I have a couple 55 gallon aquariums that may be getting a little too much sunlight. I don't want to rearange them, I like their placement in their respective rooms. My idea for a fix is to grow clones of my Devil's Ivy plant suspending it over the tank with it's roots submerged.
Here's where I need help. I have and idea of the effects of thison my tank, but I don't want to miss anytime and suffer a livestock loss.
1. The plant will grow over the glass hoods and over the sides, reducing sunlight exposure.
2. The roots will obsorb ammonia and nitrate and possibly even phosphates
3. With the constant replenishment of ammonia and nitrite, the plants should flourish.
4. The roots will create hiding spaces for fish once they grow deep into the water and interweave.
What I'm uncertain of is any negitive effects of doing this. Can anyone help me out on that? Or maybe even give me a reality check on my dreams of what this will become.
Thanks in advance!
