Help,
My fish tank currently has green water, which is not pleasant to look at. My fish tank also has some sort of algae growing along the bottom that is a dark green and kind of looks like grass hanging off the rock. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, please let me know.

What type of lighting do you have on the tank, and how long is it on for?

How often do you do water changes and what percentage do you change out?

Live plants? Fertilizers?

Whatever lighting comes with top fin kits.

Usually 20% weekly

On for a little more than 12 hours

No live plants, had live plants, dosed with flourish for about two weeks, but that was a while ago.

Do you have your aquarium near a window? To much sunlight can be the cause of your algae plume and you can still get a lot sunlight even through curtains and blinds.

12 hours is a bit excessive even for a stock light. I would cut it back to 6-8 hours. You can also do a blackout on the aquarium for a few days to kill off the algae bloom.

Ok, I will try the blackout method first, and then go from there

For green water just have a blackout for 5-6 days plants can survive it but not the algae
As for the algae on the bottom can you post a picture it might be blue green algae which is some sort of bacteria but can’t say for 100%
