Green Tinge To Water

Recently planted my 10 gallon freshwater tank and did a large substrate change. Have taken colonies of bacteria from the old substrate and filter and introduced them. Water PH is 7.5-8.0, KH is 40 ppm, water hardness at 120ppm, Nitrate at around 40-60 ppm, and nitrite at 0-0.5 ppm. Ammonia at 0 ppm as far as I can ascertain.

Not sure if this is due to a large algae bloom or what but I'm not sure what to do. There are live fish in the tank. 2 Cory cats and 5 cherry shrimp.

 

How many hours of light do you have on this tank? What type of lamp is it and how bright? Generally, the easiest way to cut back on algae bloom is to reduce the wattage or the hours. I had this one tank that went so green on me a few months ago that the fish literally disappeared. I switched to a shorter LED as I have the same timer on 3 other tanks and didn't want to reduce the hours of light on the others. It took a while, but the water did clear up

 

possible green algie build up, depending on your lights leave them on for 6-10 hours a day. for a low watt led do 10 hours max, for a full aqurium lighted hood etc. 6 hours will serfice. keep ur tank away from windows or well light areas. and make sure ur light go off and on at the same times everyday.

 

If you have access to any waterways where you can find live daphnia to add to your tank they will eat the algae that cause green water and give your fish something to eat at the same time.

 

Ive had the light on my tank for about 10-12 hours a day for 2 days. I wanted the live plants to have sufficient sunlight to grow and avoid shock from transplanting. I will definitely limit it and see how it goes. (15 watt fluorescent bulb, next to a window that ive left open blind on for 2 days). I turn off the light around 9-10 at night and turn it back on around 8-9 in the morning.
