Green Terror?

So I went to my lfs, which is probably the best place I can go for fish info since these guys keep a rather exotic stock of pets (not just fish. But they do have exotic fish too like lungfish and arowannas). I asked them about cichlids for my tank, particularly ones that are ok with angels. Green Terror came up as a candidate. Is this trie? Theyre suuuuuper pretty and I fully intend to get one if this is true

Firemouth, Port Acara (or any Acara), and Severum cichlids also came up as candidates

I wouldn't put them with Angels. GT are pretty aggressive fish and can get rather large. Neither of the fish will go with the angels, they most like will get bullied. Also your profile says you have them in a 20g, so you don't have the room for them.

The angels have been moved to the 54g as of yesterday, I should update that. So you're saying firemouth, green terror, port acara, and severums are all bad choices? Or just the terror?

I wouldn't put a green terror with angels. I believe the green terror is too aggressive. Firemouth might be okay if there is plenty of space, same with severum (not sure about port acara). But, both of those species will eventually outgrow the angelfish. Severum might be the best option because they have a similar body type, but really, you'll need *plenty* of space. Severum get the size of a dinner plate.

The severum might work out but not in a 20g, but maybe in a 54g. However keep in mind...it is a cichlid...they are what they are...non aggressive can be aggressive and vice versa.

It's tough to put semI aggressive fish with aggressive fish...if you like the angels you might be best to leave them be and maybe surround them with a small tetra.

Not to worry, we are working with a 54g now. The 20 gallon houses my 2 goldfish (ik its too small but its all iv got)

Arent angels semI aggressive fish though? all my other fish are semI aggressive too, and I was looking at (what I thought was) semI aggressive cichlids? Iv been told dwarf cichlids would work but I'm more keen on getting a 3rd showfish, one of 4-6 inches in size generally

You could try maybe a rainbow cichlid they are regarded as peaceful fish who don't give a fluff...though again caution would be...cichlids are what they are...you don't know the personality.

Also "semI aggressive" is basically: It could be aggressive but it could be peaceful...we don't know so semI aggressive sounds really mean but at the same time maybe not mean.

My killI is listed as semI aggressive and hes currently the meanest fish iv got. He doesn't straight up constantly bully every fish but he certainly exerts his dominance frequently to make the others know hes boss. Theyre all cautious around him because hes top dog

Iv seen rainbow cichlid as an option for angels. Theyre not quite colorful but they are a really interesting shaped fish. Also I was told from the get-go that no matter what semI aggressive fish I get I have to use caution because personalities vary a lot, so I was ready to keep a close eye on any new fish anyways. My lfs will take fish back too, so if one ends up being too mean I can bring it back and potentially trade it in for another fish

Youd highly recommend against, say, the Port acara or firemouth? Those are the two I liked most under the green terror

I have a firemouth and that one has a real attitude towards smaller tank mates. Little dude with a big attitude.

I don't think from a sanity point a fire mouth is in your best interest.

I like Port Acara's while not as pretty as a GT I think the Port Acara would do well. Just keep an eye on it.

Great! Ill call my lfs and ask them to ship in a Port Acara then

Btw, do you know anything about the Freshwater asian Gold Clam? I wanted a clam but only if its bioload is low

alright so I just got off the phone. turns out they don't stock Port Acara and also don't do shipping requests, I swear they did. But they did suggest Blue Acara, being just as docile, and theyre in stock apparently

Depending on where you live you can always try online orders. People here in the US have had success but some don't either. I've never did an online order before as I'm lucky to have a great LFS in my backyard. But my LFS does online order. Wetspot is the name of the LFS. They might have it, or try liveaquaria.

Liveaquaria is the site I go to to browse species and get very basic knowledge :3 theyre site is great. They do stock the Port Acara. But see, I personally am not totally in charge of my aquarium, and my mom would not let me order a fish online

Electric Acaras are beautiful anyways, I'm ok with settling for them. Iv read lots and lots about how calm they are and compatible with most fish despite them being cichlids
