Green spotted puffer white specs

So the green spotted puffer that I took from someone who was gonna flush it has white specs all over. Jist noticed it today he was fine before. Hes just kind of laying at the bottom. What should I do? Tanks at 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 10-20 nitrates, I'm about to do a water change. He is in a 5 gallon because I had nowhere else to but him and will move him once the 75 is cycled. It looks like salt sprinkles all over him.

 

I'm definitely no expert at this but it might look like ich. Also known as white spot disease.

 

Could he have had it before I got him and its just now showing?

For how long have you had it? This is one the most common fish disease. And though fish have developed a good immune response to it, it is known that in times of stress their immune system tends to be less efficient.

Maybe the trip from the previous owner to you was enough stress.

Ive only had him for like 3 days, his tail was a little nipped but he seemed fine otherwise. I think his previous conditions in an uncycled tank + traveling to my house + plus a small tank all contributed but his 75 is almost cycled so I need to get rid of this if its ich.

I've gotten rid of ich using the heat method, though since GSPs can be in brackish water, it would likely help to add salt too.

 

I do have salt that I was gonna add TexasDomer , but the heater is preset to 77 so ill have to buy another one then
