Green Algae Outbreak

HI guys!
My ~11 month old 5 gallon tank is currently having algae issues, like green algae sticking to the glass, plants, and growing on my java moss. I plan on getting some elodea to take excess nutrients from the water, will this help solve my algae problem?
Thanks!

I have a 10 gallon full of Elodea Densa and have been having an issue with algae for weeks nonetheless. I'm just a beginner, but from this personal experience, I'd say it won't help. My nerite snails have proven the best algae cleaners, though! Love those little guys.

Like many on here I am also a novice fish keeper but I do have a question for you. Is your tank situated in direct sunlight. If it is then green algae will grow a lot quicker. I have 5 oto catfish and they do a great job at cleaning my tank they are always swimming around to differebt parts of the tank eating constantly. I would suggest to get some.

I hope this helps

What type of green algae? (spot, hair... Picture?)
Second don't get ottos for 5 gallon please
What is your routine with water changes?
What is your stock list?
How long is your light on? Timer?

If your tank was ok for 11 months what did you start adding? Tell me any change that you did make in last month-stock list, fertilization etc.

Big water change, then another. Get nitrate to around 0. Then keep it under 20 ppm going forward.

Clean your decorations and then put pothos plants in the tank. They absorb tons of nitrate and keep you from ever getting algae again.

Also make sure you don't keep your light on too long.

its just a 5 gallon with a betta, amazon sword and some java moss attached to driftwood.
No changes have been made for the last 8 months, and I do water changes every 3 days. Lights are on 8 hours a day
