Grail Fish you can never have

I just spent the last week calling different DNR agents to try and find a way to get a license to own a snakehead, until someone finally told me the only person that could get a license in my state (SC) is Clemson University for their fish hatchery program, and even then they would have to have a really good reason to get one. I was wondering what other people have wanted but couldn’t have due to legality, cost, or size restrictions (or all three for some of you Asian Arrowana people)

Dream fish for me is a common pleco and a couple of oscars. I know tons of people have them and keep them well but I just dont have the space or money and probably wont for a while :/ Unfortunately im in love with huge fish :D

I would like a nice group of Piranha

But my flat is not big enough to house an aquarium capable of owning them unfortunately.....and if they lived outside the neighbours might get angry when the local cats and mutts vanish accidently after taking a swim....

Pleco or a betta. Don't have a tank big enough for a pleco, and don't have a tank for a betta. Or an axolotl.

I’ve been wanting to keep triops longicaudatus as of late, which I know sounds quite strange... they only live for two months but I remember that I once bought a triops hatching kit from a large toy shop and I failed to hatch the triops. This was so long ago and I’d like to try this again. They’re so interesting!

Unfortunately, I have lots of pets already, my cats might attack the triops and I doubt my parents would want them too. I used to keep Sea Monkeys and Aqua Dragons (just brine shrimp hatching kits) when I was younger.

I had the kit as a child as well, absolutely loved it. You should check out youtube these days, there are a few dedicated channels for Triops, cant think of them off top of my head but they make legitimate aquarium setups for them, will show you how to to best collect eggs, etc.. so you can keep the cycle going. Really cool stuff and on my radar to set up again some day as well. Can't beat turning childhood nostalgia into a cool legit setup with all our knowledge and gear we have gained over the years!

My choice to the thread is similar to Betta'sAnonymous. Black Tip Reef Shark, only get about 5 feet long! Soon as I can afford to build my 10,000 gallon in the basement....

I recently made the plunge and decided to get my holy grail fish which was a fahaka puffer (along with a 150 gallon tank)! It was the best decision I ever made.

If you really want a snakehead, how about a bowfin? They have a similar shape and size but are a native species.

Triops are cool, I thought about making a tank to use as feeders

That’s awesome, I thought about bowfins but I just don’t like them the same.

some blue platys. they probably aren't even that rare, but I haven't see them anywhere to buy, and they are so pretty.

I would love a clownfish because I find them so fascinating to look at, but I’m wholly unprepared and uneducated on saltwater tanks and it seems like such a mountain to climb that at this point I’ll just have to look at them when I visit my local store

Gosh. My dream fish is a few butterfly goldfish, they’re just too pretty. However, this probably won’t happen until I get my own place :0
