Gozer's 150 Gallon Freshwater aquarium!

I finally decided to put up a full picture of my 150, so here it is.
There's
3 Tin Foil Barbs
2 Iridescent Sharks
1 Oscar
1 Spotted Raphael Catfish
1 CAE
I kind of hope to find a pond or something for the Sharks if they start getting too big. There's a Hot Springs near by that has a spring fed pond near the entrance to the pool. The water is plenty warm enough year round and they already have Tin Foils. I've thought of donating the Sharks. Just so they can have the room they may need. I think I have enough room for everyone else in there. They're fine for now anyway and the sharks don't seem to be growing very fast at all, so I guess we'll just have to see what happens. These fish are basically the first batch. The impulse batch. The ones that started it all. MTS came on because I kept getting bigger tanks so I'd have to fill the old with something new. I got these guys cause I wanted to get back into aquariums and thought I knew I wanted "big" fish. Well, I got big fish and they are REALLY cool, but I learned a lesson with this tank. Think ahead.

I would love to have a 150 but we just don't have the space. Your fish are beautiful.

Yes they are lol. Gentle giants for the most part. Though the Oscar has been a bit grumpy in the morning lately. I think he just gets hungry in the night. He usually calms down after I feed them. Maybe I should start giving him a snack before bed. lol

Yeah and I'll probably cave in and end up getting him a better TV than I have lol. Oh yeah my fish have an HD Plasma screen. Me I just like my 30 Inch tube TV. Who needs all that color and picture quality anyway.

Now that would be the worlds most spoiled Oscar.

OMG, I just did some reading and have discovered the reason for my Oscars recent behavior. This one area of the tank keeps getting dug up and the gravel is pushed around to make a little depression. I had noticed the Oscar hanging out in the area. I just thought it was a nice place to hang out. Turns out my Oscar is a she and wants to lay some eggs. Her behavior exactly matches the descriptions of Oscar breeding behavior. She doesn't have a boyfriend so she must be a little frustrated. I wish I could just go out and get a male. lol. Alas I have no room for a male and it would be difficult to be sure I found a male and that she'd even like the guy. Oh well, atleast now I can say I'm pretty sure I have a female. It's kind of weird. I seem to often end up with female pets. My clowfish is female, the oscar, my dog and my old cat. I had a Boa for a while and the people I sold it to found out that she was a she. Too bad I named her Salazar. (yes the Slytherin guy ) I also had a female water dragon at one time. I don't know about the 2 reptiles I have now though. Strange. I don't do it on purpose lol.

What do you run for filtration for that thing? I have one which I think is a little longer and not as tall. Heard lot of different options. Ideas? Thankyou

WOW, your oscar is big! We have an Oscar too, that we recently added in November. I am amazed at the rate of growth... holy cow! Anyway, how big is she? Do you recall how long it took for her to get that big?

Right now I have an Undergravel filter with 4 Maxijet 1200s as well as a Rena Filstar XP4. I think this spring I'm going to remove the UGF. It came with the tank and I thought I'd give it a try when I had to maove the tank. I've had more algae blooms since I put it in there. The XP with additional powerheads is all I really need. The powerheads would be better just moving the water around than running the UGF. The VenturI would work on the powerheads that way so I could get a little air in there too. I have an air stone in the tank but my pump gave out. The tank is just too deep for most air pumps. The XP is loaded with biomedia and Purigen (a carbon replacement) as well as foam filter pads.

It looks smaller and smaller. I'm at a point where I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the beasts. All but the Oscar were impulse "I want a fish tank of big fish" buy. I'm gonna have to set up a pool in my house. "Yeah, we used to watch TV in here, Oh sorry they splash." lol A first hand experience of reading the label on the tank and running with it. Iridescent Shrak, I like sharks. Hey look they only get 6-8 inches. PERFECT That was about 3 years ago. The larger shark is about 10 inches now.

She grew amazingly fast. I'd venture to say she's less than a year old. Maybe 7-9 months. Don't remember exactly. Measuring in at about 9-10 inches. She slowed way down after about 6 months. Before then you could almost watch her grow. There would be notable growth over night. Especially after a good feast.
