Gourmi + angelfish in 40G tank with fire eel

So, out of impulse I had bought 3 gourmis, 2 Paradise R- gourmis, and 1 Opaline Gourmi, as well as 2 Angels ( mated Gold Marble angels ), I was wondering, if this was a good set for the gourmI and angels as now they see, to be hanging next to eachother then swimming away quickly. almost like a pact is being made.

So was this a good idea putting Gourmis together with Angelfish, if not would it be best to return the angels to my LFS?.
As well as what other Gourmis ( if possible could I put with them as well as adding some cichlids to the tank as I decided, trying to get a Freshwater Predator tank isn't going to be easy, now I will be trying for a saltwater predator tank ( when ready )

The problem isn't the gourami and angelfish the problem are the gouramis. Gouramis shouldn't be mixed unless they are the same species.

So paradise gouramis need <72F water since they are cold water. The opaline gourami is a "ehhh". They can be aggressive and territorial, it depends on the fish

Do you want to add anymore fish? We can help you!

What model filter do you have?

penguin filter for 60G tanks,
and should I lower my tank water since I have them or would that kill the other fish?

yes I wanted to add more fish, prefarbly gourmis or other semiagressive fish that won't kill any fish within a few days

Paradise Fish, aka Paradise Gourami, in the wild lives in rice paddies. They are very shallow, so overnight they get quite cold, and during the day, extremely hot. Not warm, HOT, like close to 100 degrees F. At the same time, these are often found in subtropical or even temperate areas, so temperatures near freezing can occur. In captivity, they have been known to winter in ponds under the ice. The temperature range for this species is generally given as 40 degrees F to 100 degrees F.

Temperature is not a concern with Paradise. They are, however, rather aggressive, and are likely to nip angelfish fins, as well as other common Anabantoids. The Opaline Gourami is also from a rather aggressive species, and there would likely be a lot of nipping back and forth.

Yes, I would recommend returning either the Angelfish or all the Gouramis. I think the tank would be much easier to care for if you took back the 3 Gouramis. A 40 breeder is just about the right size for a mature pair of Angels with nothing else in the tank.

I thought as much for the angels, so..... is it good to get more Gourmis? or just get another semI aggressive fish to help calm their anger

I think just getting Gourmis may be best

You don't want to get more gouramis if you have the angel

Is the angel aggressive? If you rehome the gouramis we can help you create a community tank

With a semI to aggressive fish you can't have a lot due to their nature. You can still do a school of fish to accomapny the gourami and fire eel. However I would return the gouramis and get something like a group of honey gouramis which will add a lot of color or do a group of pearl gouramis

There's no way you should be keeping a fire eel in the 40b. They get over 2 feet long...
