Gourami tank compatibility

I currently have
12 Neon Tetras
Some livebearers
And 5 Gold barbs in a 40 gallon
I have a HOB filter and 2 air stones, which makes a somewhat strong current on the surface of the tank. I'm wondering if a dwarf Gourami or 3 spot Gourami would work in my tank. Are they compatible with Neons, and also would the current be too strong for them?

I like honey gourami. They are peaceful. You could put 3 of those in.

But what about the current? I read they cant handle a strong current because they need to come to the surface for air. Would that be a concern?

Hmm. I didn't think of that.

Apparently, they are native from slow moving rivers. So, probably they wouldn’t feel much comfortable with strong current.

However, how can we measure strong or mild?

I have a 55 gallon with 2 Sponge filters with bubble stones as well as 2 HOB with dual water disharge from each one, so 4 total. Needless to say, I've got plenty of water movement. I have had a DG (no longer now) as well as 3 Pearl Gouramis in it and they've never seemed to have any problem. The 3 Pearls will sometimes swim at the top behind the disharge, but doesn't seem to bother them at all.

I think you would be fine. If you're worried, you could always get some floating plants to put on one side of the tank to slow the water down at the surface. Not sure of your plant situation, so would need to make sure you wouldn't have a problem with the shade for any plants below them.
