Gourami: Male Or Female

HI all,

I feel silly asking this with all the information on here but I'm at an impasse. We have the two gourami's below, and thought we bought males.

I'm not so sure now after observing what appeared to be breeding/courting behavior yesterday.

Can anyone tell by these pics which is which.

They all look like males to me. I'm no expert but the females usually have rounded dorsal fins while males have pointed dorsal fins. Hope this helps

Thank you, that's what I thought too. Perhaps what I saw as courting behavior was establishing dominance behavior.

Both are male, unless you get really lucky pet stores do not carry females. Males, when wanting to breed, will build a bubble nest to impress a female and tempt her to mate. Males circle and touch each other with their feelers to test to see who is stronger, if they are evenly matched or one clear dominant isn't easy for them to tell they will escalate to fighting and trying to win the territory for themselves.

Thank you for that feedback. We've had them for several months and I've never witness any abnormal aggression towards one another, the tank is large enough that they pretty much established their territories on one side or the other. I appreciate you explaining that behavior and confirming they're both males.

Though the blue ones are veryhard to sex by shape and color I'd say two males too.
