Got a cichlid - It Finally Happened

I’ve been in the fish keeping hobby off and on for my whole life, and it’s been a pretty steady companion in my world for the past several years. However I had gone all this time without ever owning a cichlid. Well the other week I broke down and bought a few young Keyhole cichlids and I have to admit it I’m in love. These guys are just so full of personality I can’t believe I didn’t jump on the bandwagon earlier.

Sooo jealous! I've been trying to find keyhole cichlids close to me (or even in my province!) and they are nowhere to be found. Awesome fish! They are like little mood rings with their colouration. Your guys look great!

Keep posting. I'll have keyholes vicariously, I guess.

I’m thinking about possibly breeding them! I got four juveniles so hopefully I get a pair. If not I will probably make them my centerpiece fish in a 50 gallon.

I couldn’t find any in my area either so I ended up having them shipped to me

Lovely keyholes! Generally, very docile fish.

What is the smallest size fish that would be recommended with these guys? I have some Asian Stone MinI catfish in another quarantine tank that I was planning on putting in my twenty gallon but now I’m wondering if they could be compatible with keyholes? They get to be just over an inch long.

No worries if not- I have plenty of tanks to play around with

Keyholes are relatively peaceful, so really anything that can't fit in their mouth should be OK.
