29 Gallon Tank Got a 29 Gallon for my birthday!

I received a 29 gallon for my birthday so my turtle got a little upgrade for now until I can afford the big one. Probably next year because I’m finally getting promoted

Anywho, currently I will be using the aqueon 40e along with that little repticlear. I’ve got two silk plants, he likes to rest on, two docks, and a log hide. Lighting of course UVB/UVA day and night heat. I have it filled about half way so about 15 gallons for now. He is still growing but not that big as of yet. I think it’s a boy? Might be too early still ? estimate him to be about 8 months old. I have the turtle topper still and plan to use that when he gets a little bigger and also have plans for an external canister filter. I think I’m going to skip substrate l, I had turtle pebbles but he’s smacking those around pretty violently and I’m afraid of a crack,
IMG_3305.JPGalso they keep getting stuck in my siphon and it’s pretty annoying lol.

I think you should get sand instead of rocks so then he or she can not crack the tank

Painted, when I upgrade again maybe I will do sand! He's very small now maybe 1.5 inch carpace. He was just moving the turtle pebbles around alot. Currently I don't think he is strong enough to cause too much damage but he wilb l be eventually !

I’m totally thinking male! Wow, that’s a really long tail. But to tell for sure you can check where it’s cloacal opening is. Females’ cloaca are close to the body while males’ are away from the body and further down the tail.

And I don’t have a tank for my turtle because he’s only semi-aquatic but to make his water bin not look so ugly I put an aquarium background underneath it so it appears he has some kind of substrate. Maybe you could do something like that to make it appear like you have sand or something in the tank because real sand + turtle poop is such a pain in the butt. But either way, it looks fantastic and the turtle is beautiful!

Yeah I think it's a male too. Agree that no substrate is way easier to clean, I notice since he is growing there is a lot more poop. I hope to get a canister filter for Christmas as I think that is going to be the best option. He is a great pet. I enjoy watching him and he seems to not get very stressed when I do handle him.
