Good Fish For Non Planted Tanks?

Even though I have kept fish for a while now, I have always struggled with tropical fish. My tank is 60 litres and I bought a separate filter (Fluval U2 - rated for 110 litres), because I was told the filter that came with the tank was not adequate. I also have no plants but have some mopanI wood and various decorations in my tank. I want to try some sub tropical fish that can live fine without plants ( like mountain minnows?) along with some easy tropical fish that can tolerate cooler water (such as pygmy corys?) Or maybe 1 or 2 honey gouramis? I also have a heater so I can keep the water at a steady temperature.

Please let me know if this is too much and also how many of each fish I can get.

Gouramis prefer planted tanks, as do Corydoras (which probably need a 20gal for adequate spacing) a few White Cloud Mountain minnows or golden White Cloud Mountain minnows could work as they can handle a varied water temperature 64-72 degrees Fahrenheit . Tank mates could be Harlequin Rasboras or black skirt tetras, even a Betta. Minnows like wood and leaves
do you think I could include some sort of shrimp with the minnows? If so what are some good beginner ones?

I wouldn’t recommend it, they eat shrimp

I’ve looked into it and apparently you could keep a dwarf gourami with the minnows, easy plants to get for them would be java fern and java moss, it’s cheap And easily maintained, maybe do some research or ask your LFS

oh thanks, but I have always had problems with dwarf gourami's. I think I'll stick with the regular white cloud minnows and the golden type. Maybe even a betta as my previous one actually lasted a good while.

My quick two cents.
If you are looking for something a little different and not too worried about color too much, I suggest that you look into Lake Tanganyika Cichlids, especially Shell Dwellers. Tanganyika Cichlids are not as colorful as other fish, but more than make it up in their behavior.

What are the dimensions of the tank?

If it is 60cm+ long you could do this
8 white cloud mountain minnows
2 honey gouramis
6 or 7 peppered or panda cories
5 Amano shrimp

I wouldn’t recommend it, they eat shrimp
White cloud mountain minnows do not eat shrimp
