Hi all,
i currently have a fluval u3 internal filter that is absolutely silent (sit 1.5m from my tank and do not hear it with no other ambient sound in the room).

But was tinking to upgrade to a good external filter in the future.

Seem the sunsun gets good reviews here...
but would a hw-303b not be too much?
Like the idea of it having a UV lamp in case of...

Have a gourami in the tank so do not want a too strong current in there.
Am also a bit worried it would be too huge (cannot at this point hide it so will be next to or on the ground next to my tank - if the height diff. Is not an issue).

Any suggestions/advise is welcome.

Was indeed talking about a cannister filter.
HOB are not an option for me...have one big lid on my tank that also houses my lights. So do not want to remove that.

I love my SunSun filter. I have the HW-302 on my 40 gallon and it works great. The next size up would probably be ok. They come with a spray bar so you can adjust it to reduce the flow, like pointing the spray bar back at the wall or something to slow it down a bit.

Am wondering if i am able to use an external filter.
are the openings at the back enough for the in and outlet?
my tank has one big lid at the top. Makes it easy when you want to clean it.

The tubes on the SunSun are approx. 1 inch in diameter, so you would need 2 inches of space for the tubes to enter your lid, then the spray bar and intake are below the water so no problems there.

So the two half circle whole in the back should be enough.
Look smaller on the image compared to real life.
Think they are 5cm high and 10cm wide.
So a inch tube should pass with no problems.

Was a bit worried the spray bar and other hard plastic would be causing me problems.
But if they are only inside the tank that would not be the case.

The lid is straight on top of the glass and only have those two openings at the back
(except for a feeder inlet on top on the front side of the lid).
So only way i can go in or out the tank is through these wholes.

Was looking at the 302 or 303b (for the uv light).
But wonder if the flow would not be an overkill for my RCS, corydoras, GBR and for sure my pearl gourami
