best recommendation for growth if your looking at cameras is go Canon or Nikon and go DSLR. the interchangeable lenses will allow for a lot of exploration later on. the brands are *mostly the same.. it simply comes down to once you pick a brand, you'll start having lenses for that brand, and they don't work on their competitors. I went with canon because I had 2 or 3 good lenses back from my film days and they still work on the newer DSLR's of theirs.

In your price range (I am a Canon guy) I think this would be a good place to start.

So I was looking at the Nikon d5600 and comparing it to the cannon revel sl2 and the Nikon has considerably more focus points, what exactly are the advantages of having more focus points?

Better picture quality? I don’t really know, just get the one you like! I would think for that kind of money, both would have really good picture quality!!:)

I will put it to you like this, take a look at the photos I post. That camera is eight years old and has like 8 points. Try not to get caught up in the “arms race” of photography. I will say that I believe Canon has better glass but you have to buy into the pro grade to get it.

What do you think about the canon rebel t7.

Here is a comparison website, I haven’t read it yet, but I thought it would be helpful to you!!:)

It seems the Nikon camera, won most of the competitions!!:)

A good camera. But in the long run it is the glass that matters the most. If you look at the lenses that the people that make their living with the camera and do not think about the cost you will see a preponderance of white lenses (most of the canon pro line are white)

Bodies come and go but the glass will be with you for many years.

When you weigh all the variables I think Canon is the better choice and is less expensive. But Nikon is a fine platform. But not worth the extra cost...In my opinion.

Should I go with the t7 or the sl2

It is more money but seems that the SL2 offers more.
