Good beginner killifish?

Hey guys,

i've been doing a lot of research recently about killifish. i've been wanting to get into keeping and breeding them for quite some time now because I live on a island where they don't ship live fish to but I can ship the eggs of killifish.
so my question is:
does anyone know a beautiful killifish that's easy to breed and that readily accept flake food?
I can feed live food but its hard to get where I live so my main diet will always be dried food. I have been thinking about a few species: fundulopanchax gardneri, Fundulopanchax sjoestedtI and nothobranchius eggersI (red). I like the looks of these very much but I have read that they don't always accept dried food. so does anyone know any good killi's for me that I can get the eggs from online?

thanks for the help!
(sorry if my english is bad its not my mother language, is my english good?)

HI there welcome to fishlore.

I'm not sure on the specifics for breeding killfish, but I am unsure that shipped live killfish eggs would actually survive the shipping process. Most of the eggs would probably be damaged, and/or wouldn't hatch.

Shipping Killifish eggs is common practice. They are very tough, and due to the long gestation periods, can safely be shipped all over the world. That's what made it possible for hobbyists to get fish that were almost never sold in stores for over 60 years.

One of, if not the best beginner Killies is the Fundulopanchax gardnerI complex. Several different varieties, and they will eat anything and everything. The Aplocheilus species from India are also very easy to keep, and not at all picky about food. And there are some species of the Rivulus groups that also are easy to feed and maintain. All of these fish can get moderately large (most just over 3", some up to 5"), at least the easy ones to breed. While the large Rivulus are generally not that colorful, they have eggs that can almost do double duty as golf balls!

Blue Gularis get even bigger than any of these, but breeding can be tricky. I would never recommend Nothobranchius for beginners, and certainly not eggersi, as that is a much more complicated fish to breed.

hey!!

i've been doing some research and I think i'm going for the ''fundulopanchax nigerianus'' but there are some variations to choose from.
I found a good site where they're all together to compare them: Fundulopanchax nigerianus killifish species profile >> killi.co.uk
its a great site!!

i'm leaning towards:

fundulopanchax nigerianus innidere
fundulopanchax nigerianus p82
fundulopanchax nigerianus makurdi

wich one of the above do you guys like the most or which one do you guys think is the most beautiful?

thanks!
