Goldfish Showing Semi-aggressive Behavior To Other Tank Mates

Hello, I recently bought some rosy barbs for my fancy goldfish tank. The goldfish were perfectly fine with the guppies. (moved the guppies into another tank a few weeks ago) The rosies are pretty big and are a little bigger than a betta. I bought 3 and the fancies keep chasing them around, especially the smaller fancy! (Fry) One Rosie moves up and down on the glass and it looks like it’s trying to get away. I feel bad for them, and will the goldfish eventually settle down?! Thanks. I feel bad for my rosies and I don’t want them to be scared as they are beautiful and I want them to feel comfortable. The bigger goldfish is totally fine with them, but the dang fry keeps chasing them and nipping at their back tail. Will she stop, or is the best option to return them? I really don’t want to as they are beautiful rosies, but the dang fry......

If it was me, I would just observe for the next few hours and see if things settle down. I notice that my goldies like to chase and nip each other a bit (assume its for fun, cause they stop after a couple of seconds).

However if you feel like its not going to turn out well or just want to be on the safe size, returning would be a wise and responsible decision.

Thank you. I will monitor the two and see how things turn out.

She’s still chasing them and nipping at them and they seem so stressed. It usually happens for 1-3 seconds then she stops but continues again. I hope she gets used to them and stops. If she doesn’t stop by tomorrow then do you think that I should return them? If I end up keeping them then they would live. Shes not being overly aggressive, just the occasional nip. I need to order hornwort ASAP....!!!!

The problem is that fish have so much personality, so my recommendation is what I would do in that setting - average personality of all fish in question.

It would be wise to rehome if it continues. Even something as simple and isoing the aggressor, doing a quick rescape and then after a couple of hours add the aggressor back in works wonders. Idk if I've seen pictures of your tank, but maybe it may appreciate some more decor (like broad leaved plants) to give the newbies somewhere to hide in?

The hornwort could also help as well!

Yeah. I have some ribbon plants but they don’t give the fish anywhere to hide. I’ll get some plants for them. Back to the goldfish... are you saying to remove her then add her back in a few hours later?

That, coupled with a rescape of the tank can sometimes help since the goldie believes its in a new environment, and after a couple of hours the rosies had time to settle in.
