Goldfish lost an eye!

Hello all! So for the last few weeks my goldfish have been battling fin rot, nothing to out of the ordinary. Have been treating for it but wasn’t to worried. Now I have a interesting goldfish tank as I was trying to do an oddball tank. Here are the details then I will get to my issue:
Parameters:
Ammonia- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- 20

tank inhabitants:
3 fancy goldfish
2 amazon leaf fish
1 bichir (in there as a grow out)
1 green phantom pleco (in there as grown out)
1 african butterfly fish
1 clown pleco
1 synodontis multI catfish
1 banjo catfish

tank is 29 gallons.
Water change 50% each week
Temperate at 76 due to one of my goldfish having a genetic disorder which makes him float if he eats to much and the higher temp helps that.

I am aware I am overstocked however I planned to upgrade them to a 40 gallon breeder and the bichir and phantom pleco would be moved out. The cause of the fin rot was that I had a rainbow shark (who I have moved) that nipped at their fins causing it, other than that I haven’t seem any aggression.

Now my problem:

Today I just came down stairs and two of my three goldfish are missing an eye. Literally it’s gone and it looks like they just fell out. Could this have been the bichir? I have two oranda s and a black moor. My oldest oranda is the only one that has two eyes please help! I have never had fish lose eyes before! All the Goldie’s are swimming fine but I am very scared that the last Goldie will lose an eye! The bichir isn’t very big yet but I don’t see the eyes so someone must have gotten them. Please help I don’t know what to do and I have to leave at 8:00!!!!

edit: they are all well fed

Edit Again: I think I may be able to get a 20 gallon tank to move fish to. Question is what should I move. I know I’m overstocked and that is my mistake however I want to fix it. I need to figure out what fish I need to move to the 20 gallon. I’m thinking bichir, leaf fish, butterfly fish, and maybe green phantom. It should I move the goldfish to the 20 gallon? Please help!

It could be the bichir, I know BGK can make a habit of eating eyeballs so maybe the bichir can too. I've also seen a couple members report one of their goldfish eating the other goldfishes eyes. This may be the case since one goldfish has 2 eyes still.

It's hard to know definitively since a lot of fish *could* eat an eyeball. Have you noticed any stalking behavior from anyone?

no, they have all acted peaceful from what I see. Should I keep the Goldie together? Maybe find some kind of a divider?

EDIT: does the hole where the eye was like clear up a bit after a while? It’s kinda freaky :/

Eye sockets tend to heal over with time. I would probably separate the goldfish from the other fish, and then it's your call if you want to use a divider.

You don't know for sure it's the other goldfish. If you remove them from the other fish and the one goldfish, you're eliminating 2 possibilities and you won't get an answer as to which it was, so you will need to keep the goldfish separate from it's friends indefinitely. If you don't use the divider then you risk the goldfish losing more eyes, but you know it's the other goldfish. So it's really up to you on which route you take, both are not ideal situations imo

Well here is my current plan:
I plan to move the african butterflyfish, bichir, and green phantom pleco from the tank into the 20 gallon. I kinda doubt the leaffish did it and I don’t think the clown pleco, syno, or banjo cat could do it as none of them are very big. Jello (the one Goldie with three eyes) has never been aggressive and although he is the biggest Goldie he isn’t much bigger than the others and I don’t see him doing that. The Goldie’s are being treated for fin rot right now so that should help with their eyes as well. The good news is that the other Goldie’s are still swimming around. However I will have to figure out how to feed them and such. If I come home and more eyes are gone than I know it was jello or someone else however I think it is the bichir. He does have a slightly plumper belly than normal this morning.

Sounds like a good plan. Fish do surprisingly well with one eye, so I think your Goldie's will be fine given time.
