Goldfish In Sunlight

First of all I know tanks shouldn't be in direct sunlight. BUT, I live in Wales and you normally see the sun as often as you see an easter egg.

Our Goldfish tank was moved into the kitchen when we acquired our tropical tank and was in front of the window. It's black backed so I thought it'd be ok. Sun only hits it for a couple of hours in the morning when we get it and I thought aside from that they'd actually have plenty of natural light. Naturally we've just had a proper summer and it became an issue. So on Sunday I moved it.

Got 3 fish, 1 is a black moor and I'm pretty sure the orange and white is an oranda. Then there's another who's multi-coloured (not sure which type he is). This one however has pretty much only come out of the submarine to be fed and then gone back in. Since I moved the tank to a spot where it would be free from the sun (and also cleaned the décor and tank top to bottom) he's hardly been in it! Which is pleasing, I'm not complaining.

My question is was he potentially hiding from the sun? Perhaps enjoying the coolness of the sub? Or just didn't like the sun and was enjoying the shade?

My best guess is that its sensitive to sunlight, perhaps because of the enlarged eyes.

It used to hide quite a bit when it was in the living room, but I put that down to the black moor being quite boisterous when it was first introduced. They're getting on well now.

Cheers scarface definitely what I thought.

I have a fish with the bulging eyes, and yeah, she seems to be extra sensitive to the light. Fish have no way to stop light from entering their eyes (no eyelids, no contracting pupils) so if the light is bright, they would either go deeper into the water or get under some plants. They can't really do that in a fish tank so sometimes a lot of light is just a bit too harsh! My telescope eye fish darts all over when the light comes on in the morning, while the other one barely seems to notice.

They're in a place now that allows the tank to have plenty of natural light but no direct light if that makes sense? So I haven't turned the tank light on since it's been moved and certainly won't know based on this. Many thanks TheeLadyG
