Goldfish gill problem help

Can anyone identify what this is on my goldfishes gill? Light pink almost meaty looking in lower gills.

Any ideas? Its hard to get a good picture of the gill. My fish now has a small red spot on the outside of his gill. Any help is appreciated he's (Oranges) has been a family pet for about 15 years.

Since you have ruled out ammonia. Consider a bacterial infection. The traditional remedy is methylene blue. Often the bottles that are labeled in the petshops as multicures are either methylene blue or malachite green (the traditional remedy for fungal infections). Alternatively many people would suggest a broad spectrum antibiotic.
