Hi

I bought 3 goldfish 2 days ago. All was great but yesterday on one of the goldfish appeared one white spot between body and back fin (look at photo).
Fish now are very inactive and sitting in one spot of aquarium. Can any know what it is and how to treat this disease?

Tank

What is the water volume of the tank? - 40 litres
How long has the tank been running? - 5 days
Does it have a filter? - Yes
Does it have a heater? - Yes
What is the water temperature? - 22 C
What is the entire stocking of this tank? (Please list all fish and inverts.) - 2 goldfish

Maintenance

How often do you change the water? - This is a new aquarium. I set it up at 16 October. But I will change each week.
How much of the water do you change? - I will 1/3 of tank water.
What do you use to treat your water? - I use 2 preparetes to set up the water before my fishes. One of the is for stress and another is bacteria for ammonia.
Do you vacuum the substrate or just the water? - Boths

*Parameters - Very Important

Did you cycle your tank before adding fish? - yes
What do you use to test the water? - No, I not test it.
What are your parameters? We need to know the exact numbers, not just “fine” or “safe”.

Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
pH:

Feeding
How often do you feed your fish? - After 2 days.
How much do you feed your fish? - just a touch
What brand of food do you feed your fish? - Sera and Tetra
Do you feed frozen or freeze-dried foods? - dried

Illness & Symptoms

How long have you had this fish? - 4 days
How long ago did you first notice these symptoms? - 2 days ago
In a few words, can you explain the symptoms? - One white spot between tail and body. About 4mm in diameter.
Have you started any treatment for the illness? - No
Was your fish physically ill or injured upon purchase? - No
How has its behavior and appearance changed, if at all? - Yesterday fish was very inactive and sitting in one spot of the tank. Today fish is more active and swimming all over the tank. But the white spot are not smaller.

Explain your emergency situation in detail.
(Please give a clear explanation of what is going on, include details from the beginning of the illness leading up to now)

I bought 2 goldfish 4 days ago (16 October). After 2 days on one of the goldfish showed one white spot about 4 mm in diameter. In the evening fish started to be very inactive and sitting in corner of aquarium. Now the fish is active and slimming but the white spot are not smaller.

I hope you understand. And I apologise for my english. I hope You understand. Thank You.

Ok, so I'm assuming your newer to fishkeeping (welcome btw) and probably aren't familiar with the nitrogen cycle. You are going to want to read up on that.

So this looks like some fungus or columnaris, but before treating it we need to get to the root of the problem. Basically what the problem is, is that your tank isn't quite ready to support the waste production of two goldfish (the waste is poisonous to them, and the bacteria that converts it into less poisonous forms needs time to build up), and it's poisoning your fish and making them sick. It will take a while for the good bacteria to build up, in the mean time the only way to remove the waste is by doing water changes, you will want to do one or two large (50%+) water changes a day. Live aquarium plants will also be of use.

The fish will not get better unless they have clean water, they will just get worse, so that's why very important to keep the water clean all the time. It looks to be fungus or columnaris, which can have similar treatments. I recommend a fish medication called MinnFinn, it will take care of both. A 0.3% salt concentration may help as well if you have aquarium salt.

Thank You for response.
I do everything what my local pet shop said. I even wrote everything step by step. But seems they a little bit wrong about few things. But okay, that is past.

So, I need to change 50%+ water every day till.... ? Till I get bigger tank or better filter? How long I need to do this - everyday cleaning ?

Second question about aquarium salt. I need to add this salt at aquarium 0,3% ?

Yeah, the thing about pet stores is that they the people working there usually don't know much about fish and give bad advice. But it's alright, it happens to lots of people.

Did you read about the nitrogen cycle? It's really important to understand for fishkeepers. You can click the words nitrogen cycle on this post and it will take you to an article on it.

You will have to do them until your tank can support the bioloads of three fish, which could be a while, maybe never, it depends on how you do it. Or you could get a bigger tank with more room for them and more water to dilute the poisonous chemical called ammonia they produce when they breathe (kind of like how we produce co2 if it help you understand better) and when they poop. Either way you will be doing water changes until the tank cycles. If you could get a cycled filter from a pet store or a fellow fishkeeper that would greatly help too.

Yes, to do that you'll need 7 tablespoons of aquarium salt (you can buy it from most pet stores, or online, make sure it says aquarium salt) and a bowl of aquarium water, you need to mix the salt until it's completely dissolved in the water, and pour all around the tank. Remember to replace the salt when you add water back in during water changes.

Hope this helps! Best of luck!
