Golden Mystery Snail Shell issues

I've had these two mystery snails for a while now, about a month and a half if I remember. When I got them from the pet store, their shells were just as bad as they are now. I thought maybe their condition will get better once they are in my tank. I feed them balanced zucchinis once a week. They usually graze on the algae that are on the glass. My ph is at 8.0. I've heard that eggshells will help them get more calcium into their system. But considering my high ph, will the eggshells even dissolve. Any suggestions on what to do to improve their shells. Also, I think that the dark color on their shells are algae since I had a nutrient imbalance about 2 weeks ago, causing an algae outbreak(I could be wrong tho and it's probably just calcium deficiency)

I dont see anything alarming about them. Usually calcium deficiency will be white pitting or lines.

But I mean, a healthy snail shell will look pure yellow without any markings or dark lines. Maybe calcium deficiency wasn't the right word, more like their shells are deteriorating. I wanna know if there is anyway I can get their shells to look like pure yellow

I want to say when they get older that will not be possible, but I am really not sure if it is true!

Without knowing the GH and KH of the tank it is hard to say if you need more calcium or not.

How do you add the egg shells into the tank ?

I don’t think your snails look bad at all , I think maybe it’s just that they are growing older and showing different colouring. Usually shell deficiencies show as holes, pock marks and chips . So you add any speciality foods for your snails ?

I don't think there's anything wrong whatsoever, if the colour was like that when you got them then I'd say that's their colour from interbreeding,
I also wouldn't say they'rs calcium deficiency,
Egg shell ! i don't believe in unless the shell as been ground to a dust then added to the water,
Adding veg is a far better method
If you think its algae try using a toothbrush and gently give them a clean,
In the second picture you can see the snail on the left is peeling due to growth, you may find his shell a little lighter after he's finished which is natural.
Personally nothing wrong

As to my knowledge from research, u take eggshells and boil them in water. Then u remove the membrane in the shell, so it's just pure eggshells and nothing else. Then you have 3 options:
1. Take the shells and grind them into a fine powder and just throw them into your tank, letting them dissolve into the water column.
2. Instead of turning it into a powder, just place those shells into a media bag and throw that into the filter.
3. Just take the whole shell and place it into the water. The snails will suck on this.

I never tried any of these, and I don't even know if eggshells will dissolve in high ph.

I don't add any specialties in my food for the snails. Just plain old balanced zucchini every week

Peeling huh... How long does this peeling last? And also, does it seem like both snails are peeling, because they both have an area that is pure yellow and then the darker area of the shell, just like you pointed out for the snail on the left

Peeling, shedding, molting take your pick and this goes on right through the snails life and as they get older they sometimes go.lighter

Thankyou for your detailed reply but I was asking you how you added yours :hilarious: I saw a picture very close to the time I replied and there was half a whole egg shell in the tank and that’s what made me question it . Haha maybe I should of worded it better !! I personally use the powdered kind as I worry the sharp edges could cut a foot maybe !

Haha . Well then ! At least you know should you need to do it . My nerites look like they’ve been attacked with the shells they have but it’s from falling and damage before I got them .
