Hi, I have a cycled 20 gallon high with 2 30g filters. I am working on stocking it, and I am interested in gold/blue gouramis. I am planning on putting a gold or blue gourami in with 5 gold barbs. Could this work?

The tank isn't big enough for the blue/gold gouramis, so no, sorry.

I think the gold barbs are a little too big for a 20 gal high too. They get around 3" and are active swimmers.

Would you consider a smaller species?

What size tank could I keep the gourami by itself? What would happen if I kept one in a 20g?

That could end up in a frustrated, annoyed, agressive gourami.

    Agree with TD !

A 40 gal would be a great tank size for one, or a 30 gal with a 36" length.

If you kept it in a 20 gal high, it would be cramped, aggressive, and unhappy.
