Are there any goldfish species that would fit a 29g tank? All the ones i know of grow to 6+ inches

Yes, any species of fancy goldfish can go in a 29, despite their possible full size of 6-10". This is due to the fact that their swimming is impaired by their deformed bodies, so they do not need as much swimming room. You could do two fancies, though with the bioload, you may only want one. Nitrates build up fast.

I agree. You could do two fancies, but you may want to double up on the filtration because goldfish are very messy! Some breeds like telescopes and ranchus tend to stay smaller, but orandas can get pretty big.

I’ve heard that pearlscales stay the smallest.

Having 2 goldfish is better because they are social, but you will need to have lots of filtration and do a lot of WCs
