Going to setup a 90g discus tank

I am going to setup a planted discus tank, but I don't even know where to start. I know I want tank mates with them but they will come later on.
I do not what stunted growth, so I want to under stock the tank. Could I do 4 discus to start the tank with? Maybe with some Cory cats, and gbr? How would you guys go about it? Thank you guys so much. Also if you could post pics of your setups, or give threads on them that would be appreciated.
Also can you guys give me things I need to watch for to make sure that they aren't stunted. Thanks a lot guys.

I would recommend at least 6 Discus, they like the company of their own.

if you don't want stunted I would highly recommend growing them out in a 55gl and then transfer them when grown. juvies demand so much more than the Adults.
if you don't want to go thru that then buy Adults. 6 for a 90 gl leaves you a lot of room for tankmates.

unless your well versed on plants I would recommend Discus first, then plants when you have mastered the Discus.

I keep a planted 75 gallon so I kinda know what I am doing plant wise.
Hopefully the discus are adults.
What kind of tank mates would work? I mostly just want fish from the same area if that makes sense.
OK, so I love putting drift wood in my tanks, along with the tannins in the water. Is this good or bad for the discus? Thank you so much for your help.

cardinal tetras, rummy nose tetras and german rams make good tank mates.
as you seen from my tanks, nothing wrong with driftwood.

for someone who has never kept discus before I recommend as large as you can afford, especially with the plants you should go for at least 4.5-5 inches. imo

Hey, I taking a brake from taking a brake for a discus question.
Could I put false juliI Cory cats in with them? I decided to put them in my 75 planted tank as nobody wants a 12" Oscar where I live.
I have moved the zebra danios, and I am going to sell the pepper Cory cats.

corys are good tank mates for discus so feel free to get em as for neon tetras they are too fragile and would die off very quickly.
Would recommended cardinal tetras as they are almost identical to neons but more resistant

False JuliI aka trilineatus are a cooler temperature cory, sterbaI would be better at discus temperature.
I don't know what you feed your discus, I know many discus keepers feed beefheart but it is not good for corys

I would give the Cory's a catfish pellet.

I read that in the wild they live in 75-82f

They'd probably be ok with the Discus, they're a little bigger & chunkier than corys

OK, sweet thanks.
I am going to rehome the black skirt tetras and the pepper Cory cats, as they need 75-79f.
My discus tank will be kept at 82, how does that sound?

From my experience they sims to hate higher temp and do not last long.

From 40 that I had in 3 monts all died off. As I could not put my hands on cardinal got neons but bad mistake.
Would recommend cardinal tetras as they are almost identical to neon but bit bigger and chunkier and lot more stronger than neons.

As for feeding don't just feed beefheart. Have variety of foods like Thera a + pelets, tetra color pelets, some flakes and frozen foods get brimeshrimp, bloodworms and some beefheart mix or homemade recepie.
Every time u feed give em something different

OK so I plan on getting my discus next week, but what I need to know before hand is should I get different colors or will they want the same color types. Again this is a "what is better for the fish" kind of question.
