so I currently have a 20 gallon tank, and have had for the last few months, and I've been learning lots and have been wanting to get a bigger tank but haven't found a good enough reason to...

but my boss at work has offered to give me his old 4 ft fish tank with light, heater, filter, everything he has! for free!
granted it is an under gravel filter and I have read they aren't good, but I am planning on trying to make a canister filter.
I'm also going to build a stand for it, or at least that's the plan

I don't really know the dimensions of the tank, he has said 4 by 2, but as for the actual size I have no idea, I'm thinking maybe standard 55 gallon tank.

what are peoples thoughts on stocking this? I know I'm going to have so many options now!! woo!!
just thought I would share this and see what people think

Awesome Nice catch !
Considering its all for free you should be able to afford a nice new filter

I must need to get to sleep the people in the uk are up. lol its late!

very nice nothing better than a free tank. I have yoyo loaches, tiger barbs, SAE, and GBR. you should pick the main fish and build around him so what do you like for a main fish? do you like angle fish or gourami?

Congrats on the new fish tank.

Do you know if you want cichlids with this tank? community? species only tank? planted?

If I were you, pick a fish that you really want, do research on it and see if it is compatible with your new tank and then start looking at compatible tank mates ;-) Have fun.

Are you planning on switching the fish from the 20 over or are yoy starting an entirely new tank.

I would switch the fish from my 20 over and ise the 20 as quarantine or maybe some kind of species only like crab or lobster

I am still undecided.... because I quite ilke the idea of a nice cichlid tank, but haven't really done any research into it to know anything about what I would really like.

so I guess I will have some thinking to do, hopefully get more stocking ideas from this forum and see what takes my fancy
