Bn and gold fish don't mix very well bn love to latch on to the goldfish to eat they protective slime coat you wanna keep an eye on that!
Ya I’m keeping an eye on it, I’ve only had him for a few weeks and he has been petrified of my 4in goldfish. I’ve heard mixed reviews about their relationship and they are both a little chubby so if he were to try I don’t think he would stick very well.
You plant val in the substrate, it's a grass. All plants improve water quality, but unless you densly plant all layers of your aquarium they can't substitute for adequate filtration.
Totally agree just wanted to figure out what would happen if I were to put either in there.

Once it gets about an 1inch you will notice little bristles growing if it's a male

With goldfish you should change at least half the water once a week. Since it will be a month, I would do a large water change like 75-80% just use some Seachem Prime and try to match the new water temps with existing water temp and your fish will be fine. Large water changes are usually not required, but with Goldfish it is highly recommended. I have 2 fancies, and I change out most of the water once a week, I have a pretty good system so its is not a lot of extra work to change out more water. They love fresh water and they are messy so they need it. High maintenance! I have 26 fish in a different tank and they are much less work lol. Good luck!
