I'm going to New York from friday to sunday. I have a Betta, 5 guppies, 8 neons, and 1 cory cat. If I feed them friday before I leave they should be fine until sunday, right?

Yes, they will be fine. Fish can go quite awhile without food. Just think about how in the wild, they are not hand fed every day and can go a week or so and be perfectly fine

They should be fine, but if you are worried, just get an automatic feeder.

That's what I thought. Actually aftet I posted this I realized they would only go a day without food. I reguarly skip a day. I looked into auto feeders and get nervous with the horror stories of over feeding and such. My betta almost died recently. I was upgrading his tank amd he jumpped out of his holding tank. I got him just in time. So I'm leary about everything right now.

Yup, being cool blooded they can go a long time without food... Assuming they are in good health.

I've left my fish for 8 days a few times with no feedings and have never had issues.

You should do a partial water change right before you leave for vacation. Yes, you can also use the automatic feeder.

Agree on a water change/cleaning before you go, at least don't leave it due for a change I also freaked out the last time I was out of town for a few days and had a neighbor come feed my cichlids, but after reading about it they can go 2+ weeks and be fine, I mean heck, the females do that to themselves every time they hold eggs/fry! A few days for basically any fish should be just fine.

I have previously left my fish to go on holiday for 18 days and that is about max before you would want to get a friend to come over and check on them but as long as you feed them before you go and do a large water change (50% or so) and do one immediately as you get back and also if you have plants in your tank I would say get a wall timer for your lights and have those on a 8 hour cycle
good luck and enjoy NY I've always wanted to go!

Agreed on the water change & that the Betta will be fine without food for a few days.

Ok so I took everyones advice. And I really appreciate it. I just did a 50% w/c on both my tanks. Swooshed the filters in treated water. Added some fert for my plants. I feel better now. I will be thinking of everyone as I'm watching Lion King on broadway NOT worrying about me fish! Thanks everyone!

I strongly don't recommend automatic feeders. They are very unpredictable. The mechanical ones can sometimes dump out too much or not enough, and sometimes they can hunk up with food from moisture. With the ones that you put in the tank and they disolve, can overfeed your fish, and cloud your tsnk, or the fish can gorge themselves on it. Also depending on what kind of fish you have, one can eat the whole thing.
I see nothing but trouble with them.
