Hey guys,
So me and my partner went away on a holiday for two weeks, we enlisted his brother to feed the fish (for a bribe), I put amounts of food in pill containers so it wouldn't be difficult and just told him to drop in the vitachem every few days. So all was good and I am actually really really proud and thankful to him for doing this.
However around 8pm one night my partners dad came over and saw the tank lights were on (they are on timers set for 10 hours) He decided to go through and turn them all off! Thinking that they had been left on by accident. He said he meant to turn them back on in the morning but forgot for a few days. We came home to dead plants everywhere! It was a horrible mess. Leaves floating, decaying on the ground. Dead fish, missing fish as well!
Moral of the story a.) DON'T turn off your lights and forget to turn them on for extended periods of time EVERYTHING DIES.
b.) DON'T let other people turn off your lights for extended periods of time.
I have now learnt just how essential lights and photosynthesis actually is for plants :S
