Glowlight tetras look white?

So... I was buying things for my tank at Petco and asked the aquatic specialist to get me 2 glowlight tetras to add to my school while I was shopping. He got them and put them in my basket and I paid for everything. I went to acclimate my new additions... only to realize they do not look right - they are white? They do not have red eyes so not albino. They have a less see through white body with a slightly darker stripe where the red/orange stripe would normally be. I think they are also slightly larger.

I'll post a picture when I get home but any ideas?

once you post a picture it should be a bit easier to determine if you do in fact have glolight tetras. Did you see what tank they were from/watch him catch them? Are they active & healthy? eating? if you aren't happy with quality or if they got the wrong species, could you possibly return them?

They didn't swim around as much as the glowlights I got about a week ago (way easier to catch with the net) so maybe they are lethargic. I kept my receipt so if they aren't showing more activity when I get home I may take them back. No I didn't see which tank he went too (I was getting a divider for my tank), I trusted him to get 2 glowlights. I didnt see any with that weird coloring in the tank when I looked but I also was just glancing to make sure they still had some in stock.

I'll tag you guys when the picture is posted.

idk johnbetta

You can tell the difference because they are larger and lighter. In the better light I can see the orange stripe. Are they still glowlight tetras?

They are definitely healthy looking Glowlights, and they should colour up more as they settle into their new home

Awesome, that’s a relief. And they are more active than they were after traveling. So no returns today

Mine were tiddly little things when they arrived, now several months down the line they have grown up and coloured up beautifully. Your new fish look close to adult size so shouldn't be as fragile as the juveniles can be. Lovely looking fish under lights

Look like glolights to me!! Might still be a little stressed from the move but they should colour up and be more active in no time!
