Glass thickness for tank

manfred9999

Hello

I like to build two tanks with the size of 54 x 27.5 hight 20 inches or
137 x 70 hight 50 cm

I will add braces alround in the bottom and the top of the tank. No braces in the top middle of the tank.

I have been reading a lot about the thickness for the glas and get all different results. I had a 150 x 60 hight 50cm tank before for many years. I think it was only built with 10mm glas with braces on the front and back only. Never had any problems.

The tanks will sit on a 10mm marine wood and 10mm Styrofoam. The rack picture is attached.

I live in the Philippines and I have only glas in the thickness of 0.4 inch or 0.47 inches
10mm or 12mm

Please share your opinion.

Manfred

We have looked into this and are currently making a tank 160x 60 x 60cm (63 x 24 x 24 approx.) with 10mm glass. It will have a frame around the top and bottom, and also a removable bolted brace across the top in the middle. My husband and son are
both engineers and say that it will be fine, 12mm was difficult for us to get locally.
