Glass Cleaner?

Salty Betta
  • #1
Hey everyone,

So I have a 10 gallon tank sitting empty which I haven’t used from 2 years since I got a bigger tank. Although I wanna get a Betta this winter break so I wanted clean the tank since it looks super dirty from inside. Is it safe to clean the inside with a glass cleaner, and than rinse it with water? I haven’t really found any info about cleaning inside of a EMPTY tank with a glass cleaner so was wondering...

Thank you!

No, simply use water as any form of cleaner inside the tank could leave residue, cleaners are highly toxic to aquatic life unless stating otherwise.
Just give it a good scrub with clean water a few times and fill, dump, repeat a few times to get any dirt out.

You can also use some vinegar on the inside, if that helps. That's what I did with one of my old tanks.

Wet a paper towel and dump normal table salt on it. Scrub away - the salt will act like an abrasive but will not scratch the glass. Rinse well to remove all salt.

Well it’s not really dirt since I occasionally used it as quarantine. Although there are a lot of water marks that simply won’t come off with plain water. I might try a lil vinegar as someone else said!

Thank you!

That’s a good idea. I’ll try it tonite and see if it works.

Thanks!

I will try the salt if the vinegar solution doesn’t work I guess.
Thanks!

Hello,
Be sure to cycle it before adding fish
Aquarium Nitrogen Cycle

You can also use some media from your other tank to instant cycle.

I have 2 filters running on my 29g, so I am just going to move one over to my 10g.

If a lot of buildup, a straight razor works well, too. Though I wouldn't recommend if you haven't used on before for similar activities.
