I’m not sure on how this became but I woke up this morning and found one of my glass catfish had a s shaped body like in some way it’s spine was like shifted. I really don’t know how to explain it and all.

I have a 10gallon tank and right before making this post I just moved him and the 2 other angel fish into my other 10gallon which has 2 cherry barbs and 1 molly fry. I used to have them in a 10 gallon tank with a blue powdered Gourami and 2 small angelfish. I’m not sure on how the glass catfish suddenly became of this but can someone give me some insight?

That is a pretty serious deformity. It could be bad genetics, or it could be a sign of serious disease such as Fish TB, or bad water quality.

I'm sure you already know a ten gal is much too small for your fish, however I don't think it's small enough to cause a spinal deformity like this, but it could. What are the water parameters? High levels of ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate can sometimes cause bending of the spine when they reach toxic levels.

Does the fish swim and eat? Have you had any other fish get sick or die recently? I would watch very closely for signs of disease and be sure to test the water

It being so sudden and so extreme makes me think its not fish TB.

I think it's probably nitrate poisoning, but without more info it's hard to say for sure

As of now I have 3 glass fish and two small angel fish in the tank, the ph is 7.0 and ammonia the level of it is safe, as for the others I’m not to sure since I ran out of water testing strips but I recently bought “Prime” which detoxifies ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate I added some a couple of drops in the tank. Also if it was caused by nitrate and nitrite wouldn’t the other fish be affected by it also? It’s weird how it was suddenly when I woke up and checked on my other fish that I saw the glass catfish spine bent. On June 8th I’ll be getting test strips but hopefully before since my nearest pet store ran out and I had to order on Amazon

Do you know what the ammonia level is exactly? Be sure to check the dosing levels of your Prime. A few drops isn’t going to do much. I believe you need to use a whole capful. If it’s caused by your water quality it doesn’t mean that all of your fish will be affected. Think of it like the flu, some people have worse symptoms than others.

And if/when possible get an API testing kit with the vials. Much more reliable than the Test Strips. All the best. They tend to be a more sensitive fish. But fun. Had them many years ago.

Also this is how my tank is setup

also yeah I just added a larger amount in the tank hopefully the glass catfish gets better, also I see what your talking about some fish are just weaker it’s like a immune system and how strong each one is. I’ll keep you up to date on the progress of the recovery

A while back I had a glass cat fish that had the same thing ,not exactly sure what it was.glass cat fish seem to always like to stay in a current maybe that has something to do with it maybe they could be prone to something like that, never the less it still seemed to do ok.hopefully some one els who would know what would cause that might answer ,BTW there awesome fish that like to be in groups and seem quite hardy.
