i have been resurching glass cats and a lot of sites say 10 gallon is min is this true?

i saw a ten gallon stocking plan of:4 glass cats,4-5 pygmy corys, and 1 male betta!!!!! can you even think of doing this???.i should say i dont agree with this plan at all to be safe:p

No, the min for glass cats is a 20 gallon, depending on the species. Pygmy cories need more space than a 10 gallon, too, in my experience. Bettas need to be kept on their own in this small of a tank, no fish tankmates. In a larger tank it may work, but imo don't try a betta community at all.
And cories and glass cats need to be in groups of 6+.

    i thought so...
if i get a bigger tank in the future id like to get some.
they say they are very sensitive to water parameters.
what is the water condition/parameters they should be kept in and
how clean does the water need to be to make then happy?

They're not really delicate, they just don't like changes. Any water that isn't too hard is fine, not too much flow, plenty of plants and shade, and at least 6, preferably more.

im talking about Kryptopterus Minor for tank size they only get 2.5 in

    Still, 20 gallon minimum.

this might sound kinda a dump thing to ask but why does a 2.5 inch fish need a 20 gallon tank
  8. TexasDomerFishlore LegendMember

Because you should be keeping a school of them, and 6 2.5" fish is too much for a 10 gal. You could live in a tiny closet, but would you want to?

Not much space for even one 2.5" fish in 10g. :)

    ok just asking...

i agree with 20 gallon min now,but why do so many people have theres in a ten? there are other fish forums saying ten gallon min is good, how come?Again im not arguing just wondering

never mind...i just saw on the same forum that they say african butterfly fish, banjo cat, buck tooth tetras, and a few other fish for a ten gallon!!!!!!

Where are you getting they grow to 2.5"?
  14. hampalongWell Known MemberMember

The Glass Cat is Kryptopterus vitreolus, which grows to about 3". :)

I wouldn't put an African Butterfly Fish is a 10 gal. They can get 4-5" long. That sounds like a slightly misinformed forum...

thats what i thought when i heard that too...

i cant find about the glass cats being 2.5 but i did see may be right tho about them getting 3 inches.

Yeah.... doesn't sound trustworthy to me at all.
