Given Free Tank with Fish

Hi, I was given a 29G(US) tank with everything included. It has been a month and the tank is doing great. My problem is that I was also given 1 Cherry Barb, 1 Neon Tetra and a Bristlenose Pleco. I put in 5 Harlequin Rasbora this week and all seem to be doing fine. My problem is that I don't want to get more Barbs or Tetras and I know these fish should be in schools. Should I try to find them new homes or just let them live out their days in the tank? They seem lively and healthy.

Cherry barbs can get agrees ive especially without groups, I'd try to rehome it. The neon wouldn't harm anything, but it would be shy unless it shoals with the rasboras.

Also, on a side note, is there driftwood for the pleco?

The Barb is not acting aggressive. He keeps to himself. I guess was just worried about their "mental health" because they are alone. And yes, I gave the Pleco some wood. He is loving it. Spent his first several years without it.

I should add that they have been alone for a while. The woman who had the tank was slowly giving up on and not adding new fish.

I would try to find a home for both of them if you don't want to get more.

When I first started out, I bought a tank that came with one neon tetra and he kept to himself and stared at a corner. He didn't even come up to eat during feeding time. When I got four more tetras, he quickly livened up and started to eat and move around.

I'd also imagine that my tetra was alone for quite a while, so I don't think they'd "get used" to being alone.

Welcome to Fishlore, and congrats on your free tank!

I'd rehome your Barb and Neon. It's not fair on them to keep them alone.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I have joined a local fish group and will try to find a home for the little guys.

Great to hear! Just be wary of people on groups like that - a lot of them just want something for nothing regardless of whether their tanks are suitable or not.

Yes, I will make sure they go to a good home! I have become attached to them and want what is best.
