Gifted Betta

So heres the low down.

Got this setup from my younger brothers (age 7/9) My step mother thought it would be neat for my love of fish.

But. Problems...

My tanks in my room generally run 79*. (Without need of a heater, still use them...) I probably need a minI heater yes?

It has a neat plug to let the water flow out from the bottom. IE the debris in the rocks can flow that way, super cool. But... Still needs a filter even w/ a 10-20% change BI-weekly. Thoughts?

I am Ideally going to get a minI heater/filter.

Its about 1.5g will this be sufficient for this beautiful crowntail? Atleast for (hopefully 6mos. We're planning to move to a larger house, then will rehome SaSL (named after my Saturn SL, black w/ red accents) into a 5g-10g.

Lastly. Lighting. It is a live Ludwigia plant. (Has red on bottom of leaves) what kind of light can I put over this? Bulb? I have an old lamp I would like to put on a timer over it. Watts for a regular light over it? (Have also read bettas have sensitive eyes???)

Thanks!

I know it may be small, but we don't have the space to rehome atm, so that's not exactly an option. =\

Is the 79 a constant? If so, could probably get away without a heater, but if it gets cooler than that by much, you would want one. If you can find a filter that's small enough, I would definitely suggest one. If not, probably daily or every other day PWCs to keep the water clean until you can get him into a bigger home and be very careful with feeding.

Is it sufficient, imo no, but tolerable temporarily, I guess it could be. It looks like he has almost no room to swim

I'd also lower the water level a little bit to give him a touch more surface space for breathing.

I don't know ludwigia, so not going to attempt to comment on that.

Honestly he'll probably survive but I don't know if he'll thrive. At my office we all have betas on our desks and most of my coworkers have them in vases that are around half a gallon (I have mine in a 3.5 gallon). They've survived almost a year but I feel bad for them. We do 100% water changes at least twice a week for tanks that small but I'm not sure if that's recommended ...

The size isn't proportionate to the photo, but I do have a smaller Ludwigia plant I can swap. More surface space to swim. =]

So. Stupid question. But this is the only lamp we have that works.

Its a 40watt crystal clear bulb. Hoping to help my plants in soil/pots, AND my ludwigia. (Plus give my betta a day/night.)

I am aware light into a tank is different, but I don't specifically know the light temp best for plants etc. Basically, will this work without blinding/frying my betta? And will it help both plants? The lamp is angled down so the direct beam isn't on the betta setup, and its approx 1-1.5 feet away. ( 16 inches or so )

It should work for a day and night cycle. I don't know what it'll do for the plants though. I'd keep an eye on the temp to m6ake sure it's not getting too warm in the tank or for the little bubble looking terrarium. Not sure how much heat the bulb will put out.

I like the little corner of your room that you've shared.

The wave was a DIY poster from Spencers. Poster was about 5-8$. I did quite a bit of cutting+taping. Biggest downside, NOT LAMINATED.

Hi. I hope you don't mind me joining in.

I have ludwigia in my aquarium. At first, I had no light whatsoever asides that which came in the window. It did fine and grew. I then got a low-powered light and it thrived. They're seriously robust plants. Yours should do fine whatever you chose to do.

Awesome thanks for the input. Unfortionately out window doesn't get any direct sunlight, also to add on we put an AC unit in and we now get even less. ( but our room is generally 79-81* and that's too hot. ) we run heaters for such a reason. (Last 2-3 days our room has been 74-76* and our heaters have actually had to work, god forbid)

Havent seen a lot of growth. I may do a cut of our ludwig., and put the big part in our shrimp tank, and the small in our betta tank. (Perhaps it needs more light, the top may be preventing the rest from getting any)
