Ghost Shrimp for Algae Control?

Hey everyone, I mentioned a while back that I rescued some tetras. I have them in a 10 gallon tank which I know is too small for them, but I am over filtering the tank with a Whisper 30 and Whisper 10. It currently has 3 white skirt tetras, 2 black skirts, 2 blushing tetras and 1 red eye tetra. All water parameters are good and I do frequent water changes but I am getting some algae growth on the tops of my plants closest to the light and on the ornament in the center of the tank. Here is a photo.

I know I can't add the bioload of ottos or a BN, but what about ghost shrimp? They are cheap and widely available. I would love some of the more colorful shrimp but they don't carry them at any of the stores I have been to around here. Will ghost shrimp help out my algae problem? Thanks for the advice!

Ghost shrimp don't eat much algae, if any. Their main food source is detritus and organic debris. If you want algae eaters, get nerite snails. They're the best ones out there

Ghost shrimp are not effective algae eaters. The fake plants can be removed and scrubbed to remove algae and a algae scraping tool can take care of the glass. I don't have any experience with nerite snails but have heard they are effective at removing algae.

I have ghost shrimp and the only thing I've seen them eat is leftover food from the bottom...look into snails!

If I over stock my tank with ghost shrimp (for feeding purposes) they eat my live plants & scavenge the bottoms for food. I have never seen them clean algae off my fake plants however in the smaller tanks

Looks like you got fake plants. Black out and you're all good

I went and got two nerite snails. I'll see how they do.

Yeah ghost shrimp won't do anything for algae. While shrimp like red cherries will eat some algae they aren't particularly good at controlling it.

Even shrimp primarily kept for their propensity like amano shrimp are only useful against certain types of algae.

Nerite snails should do a very good job though without adding much to the bio load.

Nerites, nerites, nerites! I can't compliment them enough. They cleared off massively thick layer of algae coating a 55 gallon in a month. No scrubbing needed on my end.
