Ghost Shrimp Compatability

Paradise fish
  • #1
I'm planning on getting some Ghost Shrimp in my paradise fish tank, as they don't get along with dwarf shrimp.

I'm wondering, what all were you guys able to keep with ghost shrimp? And what I mean by that is that the shrimp are very active and aren't fearful of the fish you're keeping with. I have some Amanos in the tank already, but they're too scared to do anything during the day. Probably going to move them. I see them swimming around at night though.

I usually wouldn't add any type of shrimp with paradise fish they are usually unpredictable and can turn into a shrimp killer in seconds.

How true! At first anyway. I've kept them together successfully in the past before as some just don't seem to care. Like I've said before, their aggression is comparable to the betta fish. This one in particular just like chasing them.

I'm trying to explore all the different types of fish and inverts that can successfully be kept with this fish. Planning on ghost shrimp as they're larger than dwarf shrimp and also braver than most other shrimp. If they just stood their ground and not jump away my fish wouldn't bother them.

What have you kept them with?

I kept them in a community oh man that was a mistake but then I try one in a smaller community tank he was shy then I added new fish he turned aggressive

I keep Ghost Shrimp with Mollys in a 20-long planted tank and it's a perfect combo. While the Ghost Shrimp can't overpower the Molly's, they're quick to snag any and all food as soon as it drops in the tank.

I have a few dozen Ghost Shrimp in my larger 75 gallon planted tank that has Bolivan Rams, Neon Tetra's, Cory's, and an Electric Blue Acara. The shrimp were doing great with everyone until I added the larger EBA. The smaller Ghost Shrimp were eaten or frightened out of the tank by the Acara. The larger (females) remain holding their own against the Acara until she gets larger. The Bolivians likely snagged any shrimp that were small enough before the EBA arrived. Short story: don't do any kind of Cichlid ;-)

I'm keeping a ghost shrimp with a nerite snail and betta in a three gal. Since he's so clear, my highly aggressive betta rarely notices him, but when he does "Casper" stands his ground and whaps the betta with his antennae and "Bill" decides he's not worth the fight. He is the same fish that ate three cherry shrimp a few months ago and just passed the blockage yesterday. He's also too ADHD to notice that the snail is a living, moving creature.

I just started keeping about a dozen ghosts with my black neon tetras and dwarf gourami. At first, the gourami was bothering the shrimp but lost interest after a few quickly scurried out of the way.
