Ok so I had 19 or so ghost shrimp. A few started dissapearing so I thouht those must be the old ones well they kept disapereing and now I have none left. I'v kept ghost shrimp for a while now and never had any problems but as soon as the pleco started growing they started disapearing. Do you think the pleco could have ate them?

Your pleco probably devoured them. Your ghost shrimps can't disappear without a reason.

let me pose this to you....plecos are eat what usually veggie matter right? why would they eat a ghost shrimp? and the exoskeleton is completely undigestable so you would periodically find one when you clean your tank I would assume...I dont' know tho it could your pleco and on the bright side atleast they aren't super expensive..

Are there any other fish in the tank? Are you sure the shrimp aren't just hiding?

Well my finacee was totally grossed out by this but I noticed that some ghost shrimp apparently were not getting enough to eat and kicked the bucket...and shrimp being scavengers they tend to eat well everything even each other. so this is just a random idea that is plausable... hope I didn't gross u out too much

Maybe you are right, but since shrimps are scavengers I don't usually think of them eating each other...I have seen them eating a dead shrimp though. It's possible that if all but one or two died the shrimp ate all the other dead ones. Or maybe they would eat each other (maybe if they were starving), idk. Don't worry, I'm not really grossed out by this kind of thing.

I'm thinking he ate them and not the shell because I saw some of the shells floating around but I don't know there all gone now.

HI I read about your shrimps and the thought of the plec eating them, I have one shrimp and his best mate is a pleco they stay beside each other all the time and share the boat as their house lol, I don't know if the plec would eat my shrimp when he gets bigger as he is only 4 inches just now ,but at the minute they get on really well ,
Hope your plec didnt eat shrimp for dinner though ,hope they appear somewhere....

The shrimps could have gotten eaten after molting (or do they call it shedding, can't remember)...they are much more vulnerable at this time, and that would account for the shells floating around. Of course that would mean they all molted at about the same time...strange...

They could have died from some unknown cause and the living ones could said "hey free meal sweet!!!" I know how rude that is but that might have happened as well!

Ghost Shrimps are pretty dificult to spot in a fully decorated aquarium since they are translucent.

what I do with my sole survivor is I go and wait until he eats and look for him then :-D
