Ghost Shrimp and Gravel

I was contemplating getting a mystery snail for cleanup but I am thinking ghost shrimp may be a better choice. I have a 10 gallon stocked with 5 harlequin rasboras, 1 betta and 1 nerite snail. I'm not planning on jumping right out and buying the shrimp right away as my tank has only recently cycled.

I've read they need a sand substrate but I have gravel in my tank. There's a picture of my tank here:

Would the tank be alright as it is for ghost shrimp? I'm not willing to change out the substrate but I also don't want the little shrimp guys to be uncomfortable.

If Ghost Shrimp need to have gravel, I may have been keeping mine wrong then. I have 7 Ghost Shrimp in my 10G Planted tank (Gravel) and have had them on Gravel for at least 6 months now. They are still really healthy.

If your ghost shrimp are doing fine then that settles it. I'll get the shrimp instead of the snail.

Good choice, I love those little guys, they bring so much life and activity into the tank. And they make for an excellent clean up crew

In really doesn't matter what substrate they have. Make sure to give them plenty of hiding places.

Tabby, you've seen my 10 gallon tank that I'm starting to plant.
I have 4 Ghost Shrimp and they seem very happy.
They're fun to watch. Especially when they grab onto a flake at the surface and ride it around the tank. lol

I gave in and picked up a few of these guys and put them in the tank. Betta is mad at me. He doesn't know what they are. When I was feeding them earlier, one of the shrimps ran off with some food. The betta noticed the bright red food and couldn't figure out why it kept moving away from him. I was just standing there laughing watching them. I'm not sure Dr. Finz is going to forgive me anytime soon for putting these invisible food stealers in his tank.

I like having Corry cats, ghost shrimp and golden mystery snail in 2 of my tanks. All of them have their place in helping with tank cleaning. One of my tanks have gravel and the other has sand.

I wish I could put cories in the 10 gallon. They are so adorable.
