Gh Issues In Tank

So my water has always been super soft when tested but the PH is high. I realized this was because my home has a water softener and I was adding aquarium salt for a fin issue. I didn't realize that we had a water softener because I literally am the worst at these things. I did a partial water change and gravel vac using water that wasn't softened treated with stress coat but now my GH is really hard. I have some Indian almond leaves arriving tomorrow. Should this solve the issue?

Almond leaves may temporarily lower PH, but you gotta get something stable going. Do you know if your water softener is salt based or reverse osmosis? Your KH might high, while your GH is low, so the PH is high.

I asked the husband and it is salt based. How would I know if it is GH or kh? My apI kit didn't include it but I have some strips.

Unfortunately that water shouldn’t be used in freshwater aquariums because it replaces calcium and magnesium ions with salt ions.

That's what I've come to understand. I didn't want to stress my betta more so I did a 25% water change today and I'll keep doing that weekly until I don't have anymore of that water in the tank. I wish I had realized it sooner.
