GH and KH

    Hi

    What are GH and KH?

They are listed on my tetratest 5 in 1 test strips.
It does say what to do if these values are too high or low, add distilled water, calcium carbonate or dolomite stone.
I have none of these so I would like to know how to prevent poor levels.
My 12 day old tank as readings of 6-GH and 0-3 KH

    Many thanks...Jes

I'm gonna let Butterfly chime in on this one. I don't pay attention to those readings because they are not really important unless you have a high tech planted tank. ;)

Don't worry about that. The only things you need to be concerned about are Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates, and temp, and then pH only if you are planning to keep really delicate or specialized fish. I think GH and KH might measure hardness (don't quote me on that though), which really doesn't matter.
