GH and KH kit question about color

According to the instructions and the Youtube videos I've seen API GH/KH test kits are supposed to change color. GH from orange to green and KH from blue to yellow. My kit goes straight from clear to either green or yellow with no color change. The date on the bottles is that they expire in 2022 but I don't know if the test is working correctly.

Try it on a bottle of water maybe? It seems they may be zero.

I have the same thing with KH but using a different kit (Azoo) but it must be the same chemicals. It never goes blue but changes to bright yellow after a slight greenish tinge just after one drop. So I think the KH is very low 0-1. For GH it changes colour after one or two drops. Your KH is probably 0 as well.

Immediate colour change means zero or below detection, correct.

You posted earlier on a different thread that your ph is 7.4, so your kh likely isn’t 0. Wondering if it is something wrong with the test kit?

The KH goes straight from clear to pale yellow. I put a few more drops in to make sure. All the videos I've seen, it turns blue first. I think I'll order another kit. I rechecked the pH and it is 7.4, so it has to be the KH kit.

Is this your tap water you’re referring to? Are you on a water softener at all? Though that wouldn’t explain the KH being 0, only the GH.

No the KH isn't 0. I'm referring to it remaining clear after the first couple of drops rather than turning blue first and then turning yellow. I just ordered a new kit from Amazon and will test the tank again when it gets here.

Wait! You didn't mention that before. The way you described it, it came across like it turned immediately with the first drop!
This now is something completely different. It can easily be that there is no colour showing when you don't shake it slightly after each drop.
