Getting a betta!!!

;D Well I am getting a betta. 8) On account of all my brothers fish died because he never changed any of their water like I told him to. They just rotted away until they died :'( >

So hopefully he gives his tank to me as he said before but he doesn't ALWAYS follow thru with his deals. :-\
Anyway, when I get it it will still be cycled so I will just give it a good cleaning. Not sure whether I will get a male or female, but we will see when I pick him/her out. It is a 10 gallon tank by the way. I will also get some ghost shrimp and we will see if the betta thinks they are fast food. Right now it has a natural substrate gravel, and fake plants, but when I get a bit more money I will convert it to sand and real plants. Feel bad about his poor fish who lost their lives because he would not listen, but am happy about "rescueing" a betta as well. :-\

Will post pics when I get him/her. For a female I have picked out the name "Tikal", but do you guys have any good suggestions for a male?

Thanks a ton, Brianna

Don't ever use sand in a Betta tank. They eat it and can die from it. Gravel should be smooth and large enough that they can't swallow it.

It sounds like a good substrata (if you like it) for the tank could be the flat marbles in the crafts dept at walmart or the dollar store. They do make for more cleaning but are nice and smooth for a betta's fins and look great under lights. the small river rocks (in the same places - 2 lb for $1 at the dollar tree here) could work too, look more 'natural' and be 'betta friendly'. We can't wait to see your new betta - it really is so much fun planning for a new betta and picking him/her out.

wow, I did not know that, glad I looked at this post as I was thinking about sand for my next tank =)

Such a tough choice on the mail or female =)) So glad to hear that you are getting one. Best wishes to you as you go about getting the tank from your bro and then the cycling process :-\
